ACTIVITIES

Villain Bingo

Create bingo sheets using villains or monsters.  If you have a projector, show the picture of the villain that is "being captured" to make it easier for young kids to match the pictures on their card.

Villain Catch

This is similar to how a cake walk works.  Have multiple villains printed and cut on the floor or table top. Write down the names of the characters you are using on slips and place them in a jar to draw from. Play music for kids to dance to around the circle of villains.  When you stop the music, each kid should stand on or place their hand on a villain. Draw a random villain and declare that they have just been defeated by such and such hero.  The kid who was standing on that villain removes him from the game and sits and watches till you have one ultimate villain who wins or until you tire of playing.

Invisible Villains

Set up a game of corn hole or create a cardboard box skyscrapper with windows cut out to toss objects at the villains inside like on the blog by The Show Me Librarian.

After you have used all the provided questions, ask kids to add their own.

That's Good, That's Bad

This is a fun game to play as an ice breaker for older kids and to encourage improvisational skills.  Sit in a circle.  One kid starts the story with something good happening to the main character.  The group then says together, "That's good!" The next kid then interupts the cheers say, "No, that's bad because..." filling in the story with something bad.  The group then boos and says together, "That's bad!" The next player interupts saying, "No, that's good because..." and play continues around the circle in this cycle until everyone has had a chance to add to the story or interest fades.

A Present For Mousie

Use the script by Christopher Dan Bye to put on a puppet show.  Characters can be changed based on the puppets you have available but keeping size and scariness in mind.

Puppets are a great way to approach the subject of bullies and how to stick up for someone who may be getting picked on.

[The puppet theater we used today is available here.]

PASSIVE PROGRAM

Make them dissappear!

Villains are always making things disappear like Gru wanted to steal the moon in Despicable Me.  Teach kids how to make things dissappear using slight of hand--MAGIC TRICKS!

  • Cover a table with a table cloth and set out step by step instructions for eays tricks, provide materials like a deck of cards or magic coins. Also, set out a mirror so they can watch themself and see what others see.

Fight Against Evil

Remember, not all villains are bad, merely misunderstood.
